Documentation and Musicology Research Institute "Josep Ricart i Matas"
The IDIM is dedicated to the memory of the famous cellist and musicologist Josep Ricart i Matas (1893-1978) who was a permanent academician of the Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi. It was set up by the University Council on June 6th 1979, following the proposal of Barcelona's Autonomous University (UAB) and its rector Josep Laporte i Salas; and of the RACBASJ and its president Frederic Marès i Deulovol. It was opened to the public on May 15th 1980 by the above- mentioned president and by the UAB rector, Antoni Serra i Ramoneda.
The IDIM is a centre which is devoted to musicology research and to the training of research fellows of the Musicology Doctorate of the UAB. It is mainly focused on the Spanish musical Baroque and the Catalan and Spanish music from 1875 to 1936. It has been publishing the magazine "Recerca Musicològica" ("Musicology Research") since 1981 and also publishes the "Quaderns de Música Històrica Catalana" ("Publications of Catalan Historical Music"). The institution organizes international seminars and congresses among which the most outstanding are the International Seminars of the Spanish musical Baroque (held yearly since 1989) and the congresses devoted to Higini Anglès (1988), Felip Pedrell (1991), Frederic Mompou (1993), Catalan music from 1875 to 1936 (1999) and the J.S. Bach Symposium (2000).
